- 1.5 cup rice
- 0.75 cup moong dal
- 1-1.5 cups jaggery
- 4 cups milk
- 4 cups water
- Cardamom powder
- 4 tbsp ghee
- Cashews & raisins
- 4 tsp shredded coconut
- Saffron threads soaked in milk
Instructions to make to make Sweet pongal
- In a cooker take 2 tsp of ghee, add soaked moong dal(for 15 to 20 mins). Sauté for awhile until it turns aromatic. Now add rice and sauté again.
- Add 3 cups of milk and 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- In another pan take 1.5 cups jaggery and add water. Let it boil to get a jaggery syrup
- Once the cooked rice and dal is cooled down, add jaggery syrup. Also add additional cup of milk and boil in simmer. Also add saffron threads soaked in milk.
- Add roasted cashews and raisins to it along with cardamom powder. Add additional ghee (2 to 3tbsp). Also add roasted coconut and mix well.
- Serve it hot with ghee.
